SPARK PROTECTION FOR DUST COLLECTORS

Spark Arrestors
Baffle Type

Capture metal sparks before they reach your dust collector. Installed in the extraction duct, these spark arrestors use internal baffle plates to help reduce spark-related filter damage and fire risk in welding, laser cutting and grinding applications.

Select by duct outside diameterSimply tell us the actual outside diameter of your duct. Each spark arrestor is supplied with matching male and female flanges for connection.

How the baffle design works

Internal baffle plates redirect the airflow and intercept entrained sparks before the air continues to the dust collector.

Conceptual baffle spark arrestor operating principleSpark-laden air enters from the left. Baffles redirect the airflow and contact helps hot particles lose heat. Air and remaining airborne dust continue to the downstream dust collector. The bottom drawer allows inspection and cleaning. Schematic only, not actual internal geometry. 1. Airflow changes direction

The extraction airflow carries metal sparks into the housing. Internal baffle plates create changes in direction along the flow path.

  2. Sparks contact the baffles

Contact with the metal baffle surfaces helps hot particles lose heat before the airflow reaches the downstream dust collector.

  3. Air continues to the dust collector

The airflow continues downstream, where the dust collector filters the remaining airborne dust. The bottom drawer provides access for inspection and cleaning as needed.

Duct connections

Connections are sized to your duct outside diameter, with matching male and female flanges supplied.

Internal baffle plates

Metal surfaces intercept sparks as the airflow changes direction.

Inspection & cleaning drawer

The removable bottom drawer allows inspection and cleaning. Inspect periodically and clean according to actual buildup and operating conditions.

Application note: Spark arrestors help reduce spark-related fire risk, but do not eliminate all fire risk.

Match your duct. Plan the installation.

Tell us your duct outside diameter, the process generating the sparks and the operating temperature. Matching male and female flanges are included.

SELECTION

Start with the duct outside diameter

Measure the actual outside diameter of your duct in millimetres so we can supply the matching connection.

MATCHING CONNECTION400 mm

Example based on an actual duct outside diameter of 400 mm. Matching flange pairs are included.

Connection details
Matching male and female flanges are supplied with the unit. For connection sizing, only the actual duct outside diameter is needed; no existing flange dimensions or bolt-hole drawings are required.

INSTALLATION

Position before the dust collector

Install the unit in the extraction duct between the spark-generating process and the dust collector.

  • Support the housing. Provide suitable supports for the unit rather than relying on the adjoining ductwork alone.
  • Keep the drawer accessible. Allow room to withdraw the bottom drawer and inspect the interior.
  • Confirm the layout. Check the connection positions, installation orientation and available space against the supplied drawing.
  • Plan maintenance access. Inspect periodically and clean according to actual buildup and operating conditions.

Questions before you order

A few practical details help us review your application and prepare a quotation.

How do I choose the connection size?

Simply provide the actual outside diameter of your duct in millimetres. The spark arrestor comes with matching male and female flanges, so you do not need to provide existing flange dimensions or bolt-hole drawings.

Can it be fitted to an existing dust collection system?

It can be considered for installation in the inlet duct upstream of the dust collector. Send a site photo or duct sketch so we can review the available space, support arrangement and access for inspection.

Does it replace the dust collector?

No. The baffle spark arrestor helps reduce the sparks reaching the downstream filters. The dust collector is still needed to remove airborne dust and fume.

How often does the drawer need cleaning?

Inspect periodically and clean according to actual buildup and operating conditions. Some cooled particles may be carried onward by the airflow, so the drawer does not retain all of the dust passing through the unit.

What should I include in my enquiry?

For selection, we only need three details: the actual duct outside diameter, the source of the sparks (welding, laser cutting or grinding), and the operating temperature. An airflow value is not required.
